Spain

Our first trip abroad following my time in China was to Spain, for Semana Santa in Valencia. Of course we’d had a quick trip to Barcelona in 2009, while I was living in Dalian, but this one was the first no-strings-attached trip to Europe.

We immediately fell in love. The culture, the people, the music, the food and the history. Everything about the country was simply perfect. And it didn’t hurt that we had a reasonable grasp of the language.

The next year we decided to try Sevilla, and it was love all over again. Now, we make it a point to visit that city annually. We’ve expended all the things to do there and so our vacation time is spent relaxing – coffee in the morning, an easy lunch at home of jamon, queso and pan, a nice dinner out and a lot of time just walking around.

The north of Spain, Basque Country, remains on our agenda. But for now Andalusia beckons….
